Emotional Intelligence Question and Answer
Question-What is emotional intelligence?
Answer-Emotional intelligence (often referred to as EI or EQ) has been around as a common term since the publishing of the bestselling book 'Emotional Intelligence: why it can matter more than IQ' by Dr Daniel Goleman in 1995. Essentially it is what we might call old-fashioned 'maturity'. It comprises two key aspects, also recognised as two of the 7 intelligences that Dr Howard Gardner defined in his work on the Multiple Intelligences, namely: Intrapersonal Intelligence and Interpersonal Intelligence. Our Intrapersonal Intelligence is our capacity for truly knowing and understanding ourselves in terms of our thinking (our beliefs and perceptions), our feelings and our behaviours so that we can become more choiceful in the decisions and actions we take. Our Interpersonal Intelligence is our capacity for seeking to understand, know and relate with others in a way that enables us to enjoy happy, fulfilling relationships with them.
Question-What can I learn about EI in a 2-hour workshop?
Answer-We will explore the basic principles of emotional intelligence so that you can start to notice ways in which you are helping or hindering yourself in terms of your own performance, and within your relationships. We will take a look at the purpose and make-up of emotions so that you can use them to help you in your life rather than fear them, suppress them or be controlled by them.
