Question What is Brain Gym®?
Answer Brain Gyms® are movements used in the field of Educational Kinesiology. The program teaches the body through re-education of the muscles or systems to react to a perceived stressor in a more efficient manner, producing a more positive outcome. Brain Gym® movements release the blockages that are instilled through stress, traumas and lack of early childhood patterning (reflex integration). They help the body open up to new possibilities.
Question When would someone use Brain Gym®?
Answer Brain Gym® is best used in situations where one needs to think and act clearly. When we are in stressful situations our ability to stay focused and on task and get the blocked information from our thoughts down on to paper can be complicated. Brain Gym® movements provide a way to bring the body back to a balanced, focused state.
Question How Did Brain Gym® get started?
Answer Dr. Paul Dennison an Educational Specialist who studied in a variety of sciences and processes, along with his wife Gail Dennison after having taken courses in another field of Kinesiology designed their program to be used in schools to help individuals learn better. After having great success in his learning institute (much like Sylvan Learning Center), Dr. Dennison began teaching others about his work. Brain Gym® is now world wide and is the basis of other programs that are currently being established.
Question How could Brain Gym® help me?
Answer Brain Gym® helps people of all ages become more connected to their altruism. When an individual is centered, focused and able to communicate, in other words, be in touch with all quadrants of their brain and body (side to side, front to back, and top to bottom), the individual is much more positive, grounded and available to comprehend, organize, reciprocate and communicate within their environment and the people they share it with. The Brain Gym® processes also bring balance to an individual emotionally, physically and chemically.
Question What does it look like to work with Brain Gym®?
Answer If there is chronic stress, the body goes into protection and survival. In this space the body struggles to take on new information. In order to learn, the body must be positive, active, clear and energized. Once the body has achieved this (done with a few movements), a goal of what the individual wants to achieve is established. A particular movement menu is then determined, one that will help the body release those specific tensions that are holding the individual back from reaching their particular goal. The work is anchored into the body, then the person can take note of the shifts.
