Reaching potential through reflex development
Susan Terris, BCR, MNRI (Masgutova Neuro-Sensory-Motor Reflex Integration), Edu-K, Specialized Kinesiologist is passionate about sharing learning strategies with families.
From the beginning of development in the womb, our bodies are genetically programmed with specific movement patterns that we call reflexes. A particular placement of touch will result in a particular motor reaction. These particular movement patterns have been found to ultimately hardwire the brain and body for more complicated programs of development as the individual transitions through a variety of postures as they learn to move against gravity. They also serve for hardwiring the body to respond quickly for protection and survival. Sometimes during development these motor reactions can be absent, underdeveloped, stuck, or confused, resulting in delayed or absent development, at more chronic levels, labels such as Autistic, Cerebral Palsyed, ADD, ADHD, Learning Disabled, Sensory Processing Disordered and more are given. Particular bundles of reflex absences have been found to lead to particular disorders.
